CS: carcinosarcoma IHC: immunohistochemistry PCCS: primary cutaneous carcinosarcoma SCC: squamous cell carcinoma SCM: spindle cell melanoma SMA: smooth muscle actin SpSCC: spindle cell squamous cell carcinoma INTRODUCTION Malignancy can develop after exposure to ionizing radiation. Basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and sarcoma associated with ionizing radiation have been reported previously; however, cases of ionizing radiationeinduced carcinosarcoma (CS) are rare. CS is a biphasic tumor with overt carcinomatous and sarcomatous features apparent with both light microscopy and immunohistochemistry. Here, a case of primary cutaneous carcinosarcoma (PCCS) after chronic occupational exposure to ionizing radiation is presented.

The Effect of Sun Radiation on the Course of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in BALB/c Mice

Objective(s) Studies have described immunomedulatory effects of sun exposure and ultraviolet radiation on infectious and neoplastic diseases. Here the effect of exposure to low potency radiation of sun on the course of leishmaniasis in mice was studied. Materials and Methods Fifteen BALB/c mice were exposed to suberythemogenic doses of sun (mean 180 mJ/cm2/day of UVB) 2 months before and 4 m...

Evaluation of Radiation Exposure Pattern and Radiation Absorbed Dose Resulting from Occupational Exposure of Anesthesiologists to Ionizing Radiation

Introduction: Little information is available concerning the radiation exposure of anesthesiologists, and no such data have previously been collected in Iran. This prospective study was performed to determine the amount of radiation exposure of anesthesiologists for the purpose of assessing whether or not dangerous levels of radiation exposures were being reached, and to identify factors that c...

Exposure to direct and scatter radiation with use of mini-C-arm fluoroscopy.

BACKGROUND Mini-c-arm fluoroscopy has become an important resource to the orthopaedic surgeon. Exposure of the orthopaedic surgical team to radiation during standard large-c-arm fluoroscopy has been well studied; however, little is known about the amount of exposure to which a surgical team is subjected with the use of mini-c-arm fluoroscopy. Moreover, there is controversy regarding the use of ...

Occupational radiation exposure to the surgeon.

Increased use of intraoperative fluoroscopy exposes the surgeon to significant amounts of radiation. The average yearly exposure of the public to ionizing radiation is 360 millirems (mrem), of which 300 mrem is from background radiation and 60 mrem from diagnostic radiographs. A chest radiograph exposes the patient to approximately 25 mrem and a hip radiograph to 500 mrem. A regular C-arm expos...

Photoreactivation of ultraviolet radiation-induced skin and eye tumors of Monodelphis domestica.

Chronic exposure of the opossum Monodelphis domestica to UV radiation (UVR) leads to the formation of cutaneous and corneal tumors. Groups of shaved opossums were exposed 3 times/week to: (a) UVR alone; (b) UVR followed immediately by 1 h of photoreactivating light (PRL) (320-700 nm); (c) 1 h of PRL followed by UVR; and (d) 1 h of PRL alone. Exposures were terminated after 70 weeks of treatment...
